at Pan Am U17 Championships

SAVANNAH – Tayler Jakubsen, age 14, a student at Benedictine Military School, exceeded his personal weightlifting records as part of Team USA at the Pan American Under 17 Championships held in Chiclayo, Peru April 23-26, 2010.
Jakubsen, a member of Coastal Empire Weightlifting accompanied by Coach Kerri Goodrich, Team USA Team Leader , was part of the eight member U.S. Team. Jakubsen had new personal bests in both lifts, as well as five of his six lifts being successful. He snatched 105kg and lifted 132kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 237kg.
Competing in the 77kg division, Thomas “Alex” Silon of Seabrook, SC with Team Savannah, placed ninth with a new personal best snatch and clean and jerk of 101kg and 121kg, for a total of 222kg.
The Pan American U17 Championships was the final opportunity for athletes to qualify in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore. The U.S. men must place in the top four teams at the event to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games.. Teams that qualified for the Games will be announced at a later date.

Performance Initiatives is a non-profit 501c3 organization based in Savannah, Georgia , USA Weightlifting Regional Training Center and the home of Coastal Empire Weightlifting. The purpose of the organization is to educate and mentor youth and adults by using athletics and fitness, with Olympic-style weight lifting as the base.
