SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's not the Olympics, but that didn't stop Savannah's three-time Olympian Cheryl Haworth from holding her own competition for some of the area's best athletes.

Future Olympians as young as six-years-old cleaned and jerked their way to the gold at the first annual Cheryl Haworth Classic Weightlifting Competition. Cheryl used the event to raise funds for the US team's future Olympic trips as well as get others around the area interested in her sport.

"It can be really intriguing especially for a young person. It's a really good way to spend time and get in shape and stay out of trouble and that kind of thing," said Cheryl Haworth. "It changed my life for sure and I'm glad to be in a position where hopefully I can inspire others to do the same."
