Help Keep the Lights On at Performance Initiatives

Date:  Thursday, October 22nd
TIME:  3-6pm
SAVANNAH, GA - Performance Initiatives will join with the Afterschool Alliance in this year’s Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide series of rallies in support of afterschool programs, on October 22.  To mark the occasion and to urge full funding for afterschool programs, supporters  will gather for Lights On Afterschool rallies in more than 7,500 communities.  Over one million Americans are expected to gather at events across the country to draw attention to the need for more afterschool programs. lightsonflyeronepage.jpg

The Performance Initiative’s Lights On Afterschool event will be held at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Family Life Center gymnasium located at 2021 Tennessee Avenue.  The Minor League Baseball and Softball Academy will hold pitching demonstrations and offer scholarships for inner city youth.  Young students who come to the gym after school will give live demonstrations of Goshin Jitsu, Olympic weightlifting, and Kid's Cross Fit techniques.  Tours of the facility will also be available, including an overview of the L.O.V.E. after school tutoring program and a look at the new computer lab provided by Five Years Forward.

Sponsorships are still available for the Lights On rally beginning at $300. This pledge will keep the lights on for one month at Performance Initiatives – a non-profit organization, and also the home of Coastal Empire Weightlifting.

Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 14.3 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.

Members of the community are invited to attend the October 22nd event at Performance Initiatives to  preview all the programs available.  For further information, please contact Kerri Goodrich at 912-507-7106.  For more information about Lights On Afterschool or about afterschool programs in general, visit www.afterschoolalliance.org.  www.performanceinitiatives.org
