Several standout Coastal Empire weightlifters from the non-profit organization Performance Initiatives Inc. recently returned home with gold medals from performances in the Open Championships held in Flowery Branch.

Wilson Cobb, Jeff Crosby, Javier Richards, Nikki Hanebrink and Alex LeFavi qualified for the prestigious USA Weightlifting School Age National Championships which is to be held in June in Foster City, Calif.

Another Coastal Empire weightlifter, Tayler Jakubsen, qualified for the USAW Pan Am 17-and-under Team in the 85 kg. division at the 2010 Junior Nationals, which were held in Rochester, Minn., Feb. 27-29. Jakubsen will also join eight others from P.I. when they travel to Chiclayo, Peru, to compete in the star studded 2010 Pan American Games.

The team is tasked with earning the U.S. a spot for the first ever 2010 Youth Olympics to be held later this year in Singapore.

P.I. will have a boston butt fundraiser this Friday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Coach's Corner to help raise funds for both the Pan Am trip as well as the School Age National Championships trip.
