Weightlifters of all shapes, sizes and ages gathered in Savannah Saturday for the annual Cheryl Haworth Classic. The event honors three time Olympian Cheryl Haworth, who won a Bronze Medal at the 2000 Olympic Games. Dozens of lifters from across the southeast took part in the event put on by Performance Initiatives, Inc and Coastal Empire Weightlifting. Performance Initiatives is a Savannah based not for profit organization dedicated to help others by using athletics and fitness. Their mission is simple-to inspire and implement principles in programs which will enrich the lives of others physically, psychologically, and spiritually. Coastal Empire Weightlifting is part of the program - training students and adults in competitive weightlifting. Several national and international champs of come out of Coastal Empire Weightlifting. |
